College History

The College was established as Borno College of Basic Studies (popularly called BOCOBS) Maiduguri in 1976 to offer Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examinations (IJMBE) and Remedial Programmes which would eventually allow students then to gain admissions into the Nigerian Universities. However, the College moved to Bama in 1986 and in 1987 it started running the NCE programme. The  name of the College changed from Borno College of Basic Studies to Borno College of Education, Science and Technology (BOCEST) Bama under the Edict 1984. Later, the State Government decided to change the name of the College to Umar Ibn Ibrahim El-Kanemi College of Education, Science and Technology Bama to immortalize the name of the late Shehu of Bama (Late Shehu Kyari’s father).
